Local places to eat?

I really love local seafood places to eat verses the tourist traps. We are staying in Gulf Shores in late June and would love suggestions. Thank you, Angie

We enjoyed Fish River Grill #3 recently. They specialize in fried seafood but you can also get it grilled or blackened.

Our favorite (much more expensive) place to go for fresh fish is Big Fish in Orange Beach.

Tin Top in Bon Secour (down CR 10) is always great for seafood and steaks.

There are many more to choose from but we have eaten at the above recently and been very happy with our meals.

Shipp's Harbour Grill in Orange Beach is one of my favorites. Their grouper ponchatrain is especially delicious. The Steamer in Gulf Shores is a casual restaurant that does fish, oysters, shrimp, etc. just about any way EXCEPT fried.

Shipps Harbour Grill - fresh fish and cooked to order. If you go early there is a Twilight menu and there are daily deals, however it is a noisy place and it is advisable to book a table. Fishers at Orange Beach ideal spot for lunch. Cosmos - always good. Big Fish excellent. The Steamer Gulf Shores has excellent oysters raw or grilled - lunch time menu excellent price. The Diner on Canal - good breakfast. Take a drive to Joe Patti's Seafood Market which is always an experience - they will cook seafood for you - check out their website.

The "go-to" tourist places are the "Original Oyster House", "Wintzell's", "Cotton's", the "Hangout" and anything located at the Wharf. "Snowbirds" like Hazel's but it's not the fine dining it used to be. Personally, the drive to Felix's or the Bluegill is worth it but so is McGuire's Irish Pub (30 minutes to Pensacola from Gulf Shores. I promise, it is WELL worth it. They brew their own beer, cut their own meats, and you have to kiss the moose!)

I am not a huge fan of Fish River Grill but it's ok...not chain food but not overly-expensive, top-grade seafood, nor fine dining but decent. But if you are looking for the "local favs" try DeSoto's. Tacky Jack's is loved by tourists, is a bit expensive, as is LuLu's (owned by Jimmy Buffet's sister) but you wont beat the hamburger's at LuLu's or the atmosphere, but it is a little more expensive.

Tourists also congregate at the "Hang-Out", the "Shrimp Basket", "Bubba's" while locals like the Pink Pony Pub, Doc's, Mikee's, DeSoto's or The Steamer. Live Bait used to be great but I havent been since 2010, and of course, the Flora Bama is the place to party. The Wharf is somewhat newer and highly publicized, but does have some nice dining, shopping, and dining oportunities for the entire family.

You have got to try the Flip Flop Deli Shop on West Beach. The owners are great down to earth people and the food is reasonable and out of this world.
