Delhi Hotel with some character & history, not modern & new?

Am considering a trip to Delhi and looking for a good quality hotel with character and charm, history, ambience. (for example loved the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan, Egypt and chose that over the brand new hotel on elephantine island). So any recommendations for something fairly central in Delhi/New Delhi? Good quality, but which has something special rather than just a new, shiny modern place?

Hello,

If you are looking for a 5* hotel then try The Lallit or The Imperial, they both are located within the city center & have very good indoor/outdoor atmosphere with all major facilities. They do offer reasonable rates nowadays. Check their rates on different portals i.e, www.booking.com / www.agoda.com

Enjoy!!

You could think of Oberoi hotel. Its a 5 star and located next to the golf course.

there is another one called Oberoi Maidens which is a really old building, same management as Oberoi but this one is a 3star. Its not centrally located [it is in the north of Delhi near the university area] but it is close to a metro stop so you will be well connected via the Delhi metro.

If it's within your budget then the Imperial is what you're looking for.

Oberoi maindens is no doubt good. In low budget try the Amarya haveli, it has rooms with characters.

Without a budget specified, it is hard to provide sensible advice.

The tourist attractions in Delhi are widely spread out and there are sites both in the north of the city and the south of the city. No matter where you stay, you will be driving around quite a bit if you want to see all the major monuments. So I think you can pretty much stay where you please, with some exceptions (like the extreme west and extreme east part of the city). So don't let location constrain you much. In any case, Delhi is not a city where you want to go walking in the late evening anyway..
