Yellow Fever in Lagos?

I will be travelling to Lagos in a week. Unfortunately I cannot have the yellow fever vaccination due to medical reasons, I therefore have an exemption stamp on the yellow card. Is yellow fever a problem in Lagos? I will not be visiting rural areas and will be using plenty of DEET.

Thanks

Hi there,

You being asked for the yellow card cert doesn't depict that the country is experiencing any epidemic, its only a precautionary measure to prevent any should there be any..

You not having it gives the immigration officers at the point of entry (POE) opportunity to request for cash or any belonging of yours before you can gain entry into Nigeria. they have been given airs to turn down any traveler from gaining entry into the country.

I please advice you have your yellow card with yah

regards

From what I know not in Lagos where I live.but its a must to have as at arrival it will be requested if you have a stamp you must be fine but for sure they will try to get some money from you. If you need a place to stay in security close to everything casino , bar restaurant market Ibis Toyin street Ikeja its a top location.

I was warned I would pay $160 and be given the injection in the airport, I don't think they can let you in without it. So I made sure my paperwork was in order

I've been going to Lagos and Abuja for years. My experience has been when visiting certain countries e.g. South Africa, if they see a Nigerian Visa they check to see you have had the Yellow fever jab. Your exception probably covers you for this.

Do you need to take it? Probably not, but better safe than sorry is my view, But I take malaria tablets too, which is probably overkill.

So the deal is this, it is not required UNLESS you are traveling from an endemic area (not USA or Europe) . That being said, if you do not have it you will be expected to give a "gift" to get through customs. It is an opportunity to make money they will not pass up but I seriously doubt they would try to turn you around and fly you back home. Also remember the vaccine is not effective until 10 days after the shot so if they give it to you it will be pointless unless you are there longer than 10 days. Lagos had 2 cases I think last year. It is not the area that typically has issues so I would not be too concerned. About yellow fever that is, you will be hassled without the vaccine. Just bring cash.

Collins N

The website you posted a link for has nothing to do with Yellow Fever vaccination which is what the OP was asking about.
