To extend upon a theme:

I shall be visiting Petersburg in Jan (starting 14th) for a week. I assume by this time the Neva will have frozen and the 'winter proper' will have begun.

Are sleigh rides available? and how do you go about getting these?

Thanks

James

It’s great that you are not afraid of Russian winter! But I have to say that in St. Petersburg no one could promise you snow even January 14, sorry! But if we have snow there are at least 2 places where you can get sleigh ride – Catherin’s garden (Pushkin or Tsarskoe selo) and Pavlovsk park. I would prefer Pavlovsk. On weekends (some weekdays as well) they have horses with sleigh just in front of the palace.

The cost will be around 10 euro for 10 min ride in case of one horse and 15 euro for 10 min ride in case of “troika”. Get “troika”!!!

Enjoy Russian winter!

Definitely not enough for a sleigh ride and it's being washed away by rain right now. Maybe in a week...

So we are here!

Is there enough snow for a sleigh ride at either of the places mentioned near SPB? Or anywhere within a days ride away? My partber REALLY wants one....

Just this afternoon I have seen the Neva finally frozen (even yesterday there was an iceflow), some snow seen in town - then, much more in the suburbs. Steady minus - feeling like -4C -6C.
