Sections in town

Hi all,

I plan on visiting Russia next year. It will be my first time. Just curious as to what the best section of St. Petersbburg is to stay in? Looking for a section that is safe and within walking distance of some nice restaurants and attractions.

Thanks,

Chris

As a local, I would advise the Central and Admiralty (Tsentralny and Admiralteyskiy) districts of St. Petersburg. BUT! A little bit aside from the big avenues and streets. Pay attention to the hotels located on the embankments of small rivers - Fontanka, Moika, Griboyedov. It will be a real Petersburg!

I'd say the closer you are to one of the central Metro stops, the better:

Admiralteyskaya (line 5)

Gostiny Dvor/Nevskiy prospekt (lines 2 & 3)

Sennaya Square/Spasskaya/Sadovaya (lines 2, 4 & 5)

That would put you right in the historical center, and within easy reach, via Saint Petersburg's excellent public transportation system, of just about anything you'll want to see here.

I would recommend staying near St. Isaac’s Cathedral which means you are within 10 minutes walk of Nevsky Prospekt, Palace Square and the Hermitage.
