St Petersburg from Moscow

Hi, looking for the best way to travel from Moscow to St Petersburg. I've seen trains online, I just wanna know if there are any recommendations on times, safety measures or train companies.

Also, is it better to take a guided tour? Or the place is suitable to tourist it ourselves. We will be staying 2 days 1 night.

Thanks!

On my opinion the best way is to use Sapsan train. It's very fast and comfortable. A bit pricy but it cost not more than airplane tickets being much easier to reach while that. It goes straight from Moscow downtown to SPB downtown.

Also it's cheaper to get tickets on train from rzd.ru website.

"train companies" - Choosing between the only one is not difficult :-). RZD is monopoly.

Guided tour - you mean including Moscow and Petersburg?

It makes sense, they will buy the tickets for you.

Or maybe transport you by bus visiting Novgorod on the way.

It all depends on your own self -

you like to arrange things - you do it;

you don't - you let ther people do it and pay them for it

By the way, organized tours are not necessarily more expensive, as they buy services wholesale

Moscow to St. Petersburg - flying, about 1 hr, fast day train - 4 hrs, night sleeper train about 9 hours. All variants have pros and cons, you;ll have to deside...

Plus 1 hr getting to the airport at least 1 hr in advance plus 1 hr to get from the airport to the city equals 4 hrs

If you are going for tourism purpose to SPB, one day is too short. At least 3 days needed to see some of the best things of SPB. Sapsan is one of the best mode of Travel from Moscow to SPB and best way to book is through RZD
