St. Pierre and Miquelon Islands - a part of France

Where is the best embarkation point for getting to these islands? What public transportation is there? How valuable is it to stay there for three or four days? What can be done on both islands? Where is the best source of information about the islands? Are they tourist friendly or just remote? Summer is the preferred time but we do not know about boat transportation there. What does it cost? Any youth hostels there? Is there a university or a college there. What about heath facilities there? Is it very expensive? Is there boat transportation to PEI or just New Found land?
