I am going to the sands in october and I am slightly confused about the travel adaptors mentioned in earlier topic. Do we need a travel adaptor I picked one up in Wilkinsons but now i am not sure if it is the right one it said it is for use in Americas Australia and Asia,

I would also know about tips for the staff what is the correct way to go about this

I hope someone can help i am so looking forward to my 14 nights at the sands

Stayed there the other year and as far as I recall they have mostly square three pin BS plugs. Sometimes you come across round 2 pins but your travel adaptor wont work anyway as the prongs are thicker. Don't worry, housekeeping should provide these should you require them.

Tipping ,we used to tip housekeeping about 100 rupees every few days and the porter who delivers and collects your bags you can tip what you like, around

200 rupees.

Bar staff and waiters at your discretion.

Wages are low in Mauritius and every little helps.

You can also choose to tip at the end of your two weeks.

Its a lovely hotel and you'll have a great time,

Best Wishes

We always take a worldwide adaptor with us but as of yet we have never needed it in Mauritius as UK 3 pin adaptors are common although I have seen old fashioned 2 pin adaptors in a few private houses.

Hi

The normal 3 pin UK plugs are all you'll need for The Sands. I've been to this lovely hotel 8 or 9 times now, sorry lost count! If you need any further information please ask.

Have a great time

Best wishes

Incidentally the two prongs are quite common in Mauritius because a lot of the appliances on sale there are two pronged. My hairdryer and electric mats are a case in point but my kettle, microwave, toaster etc are all 3square BS. It can get very confusing.

But most plug points in hotels are 3 pronged BS although I have seen the two pronged in quite a few hotels still. It depends on the room. Some are all 3 pin, others are a mix. The hotel just provided an adapter.

The apartments we've stayed in have had a combination of both kinds of sockets so we always take our adaptor in case. The Sands however has the UK square 3 pin in the rooms
