Veranda Palmer - currency

Hi,

We are going in 4 weeks and are unsure whether to take rupees or some other currency. Are rupees preferred?

We don't want to take too many so also wanted to check if there is somewhere nearby to withdraw cash cheaply?

Thanks!

Change sterling into rupees in the arrivals hall in Mauritius. No commission and a much better rate than you will get in the UK.

You can change money at Shibani at nearby Belle Mare too.

ATMs are plentiful in Mauritius so you can take rupees out as you go along. However I would exchange some sterling a the airport arrival halls to keep you going qat least for the first few days of the holiday.

As others have said best ideas is to change some money as soon as you arrive, in any case you will need it for tips for your taxi driver and the bell boy who brings your bags to your room. Tipping in anything other than Mauritian Rupees is not a good idea.

Best wishes

I've just visited and it's Mauritian rupees, I changed at the arrival hall and got 45 rupees to the pound.
