...Finding the perfect resort...

Hi there,

My husband and I are planning a trip to the Maldives from 3 - 11 February 2017 and would appreciate some ideas and suggestions regarding the planning of this trip. We have 8 nights to spend in the Maldives, and thinking of visiting the South Ari Atolls and arrive by seaplane. ( the reason we are interested in the South Ari Atolls is that we hear it's better for snorkelling & diving, but please correct me if I'm wrong!)

We have a few 'must have' requirements/wishes and these include: a resort with superb photo opportunities surroundings (as we are both keen nature-photographers), an all inclusive package, over-water villa, fantastic house-reef & diving and loads of excursions ( for example island hopping, sand-bank picnic, day-trips etc.) We would also prefer a resort that is less popular with large groups of families with kids. Although be love children, we would love to spend our holiday in a quiet, tranquil environment but still have the opportunity to socialise with other people over cocktails.

Our budget allows 4/5* and if the resort has everything we dream of, we won't mind spending money.

I look forward to your ideas and suggestions and thank you very much!

The SAA is regarded as having some of the best diving and snorkeling in the Maldives especially if you want a chance of snorkeling with whale sharks. That said you can find good snorkeling all over the Maldives.

We need to know your accommodation budget per person to help you because even islands with the same star rating have very different prices.

Absolute stab in the dark without knowing your budget! Athuruga comes to mind.

Hi Darryl,

Thank you for taking the time to give your suggestions on my post.

Our budget would be in the area of 6000GBP, excluding flights. I was thinking of staying 4-nights in mid-range resort, and ending the holiday in an exclusive, smaller resort IF this is possible and convenient to travel between the two islands. The reason for wanting to stay in two different resorts, is to experience different things that different resorts have to offer.

I appreciate your input!

Another vote for Athuruga.....the watervillas are fab. Or it's sister island Thudufushi, both South Ari Atoll.

Another vote for Athuruga. If you want a split stay, Mirihi is near Athuruga and is very popular on the forum (but I've not been to Mirihi so that's not a personal recommendation).

If AI is a must have (as per the OP) then Mirihi doesn't fit the criteria. Mirihi doesn't offer AI.
