Tiberius to Safed

We will be staying in Tiberius and are looking for reasonable transportation to Safed for the day or part of a day. We do not want a tour. We will likely have a small group interested in visiting there; and looking for a cab or transport service to and from Safed only. Any assistance would be helpful.Thanks.

Any cab can take you, or there will be options by bus.

But I encourage you to reconsider not using a guide at all. Tsfat (Safed) is a complex, rabbit-warren of a city, in different sections with much not visible unless you know where to look and what you're looking at. It's far harder to tour on your own than most cities.

But getting to/from there will be easy.

Thank you very much for your quick response. We are arriving in the area (Tiberias) ahead of the rest of a group prior to going to Nazareth; and have a tour company we are using for the rest or our pilgrimage throughout Israel. We can likely get suggestions for a guide through them. However, out goal is just to explore the galleries, shops, restaurants for a day. Would you still recommend a guide? If so, any suggestions? Thanks again for your help.

I'd just take a taxi. The bus does not take you to the Old City where the galleries are. Yiu don't need a guide for this. Note that allergies open around 10 and close around 5. Although a few open earlier and some stay open later.

Bus 450 runs fairly regularly from tiberias to Tzfat and back again. The bus will take you to the Central Bus station, a 10 minute walk from the Old City and the galleries. Alternately you can get a taxi in Tiberias and drive up or get in touch with one of the drivers listed here.

Thank you for your reply. There will be six of us. Any idea the cost of a cab?

Is the bus fairly reliable? I checked and it does seem to run fairly regularly between the two locations. Thanks

The buses in Israel are always reliable. Fare is about 14 shekels per person each way. A taxi is about 220 shekels each way.

I did it by bus, it’s fine. Because the two places you are going to and from are the termini, you can rely on them running to time barring major holdups - at intermediate stops, Israeli buses don’t wait if they arrive early. Yes, the bus station is a bit of a walk from the artists/synagogues area, but there's going to be a lot of walking anyway.

Yes, buses are reliable. And for six people you would need two taxis, making it an unnecessarily expensive ride! Each taxi would cost 176 shekels, with a small extra charge for the third person, total around 350 shekels. Bus fare is 14 shekels per person, so total 84 shekels.
