when to use tour guides

we are doing a six night and seven day tour.when is it best to hire tour guides and for half or a full day in each city.we arrive at delhi and will be driving straight down to agra.we then have one nite agra, one in jaipur, one in bikanear, two in jaisalmer and one in jodhpur.as there is alot of driving involved is it best to have a guide for half or full day in each city.how does it work to we pick and drop off the guide in the same place to go with us and the driver.many thanks.

hi chelseawolves.

It is good to have guide in each city. guide will give you the info for monument and city it is not only about history it is also what to do and what not to do in monuments,Temples,Mosque. or with local people. do not trust on drivers only they have limited thinking. my advice is to hire a guide for full or half day in each city.

these are some places if you like something from these so you can add in your program or else ignore it.

Rajasthan tour,

Places to visit :

Delhi : ..Qutub Minar, Jama Masjid, Humayum Tomb, Lotus temple. India Gate, Akshardham Temple.

Agra: ...Taj mahal, Agra fort, Fatehpur sikri, Itmad ud dula ( Baby taj ), Sikandra, Mehtab Garden(at back of Taj mahal.)

Jaipur:... Amber fort, Hawa Mahal, Janter manter, City palace, Jal mahal, Chowki dani.

Ranthambore: wild life.

Jodhpur : Meran gardh fort, Jaswant tada, masala market cloack tower, mandor garden.

udaipur: City palace, boat ride, princess garden, sanjan garh(mansingh fort).

Jaisalmer : Sonara kila, sand dunes camel ride.

Bikaner: juna garh fort ,karni mata temple( mouse temple) .

Important notice Taj mahal is closed on every FIRDAY.

We never hired a guide, the tuk tuk drivers that we hired outside our hotels were very good, just tell them you don't want to visit any shops before agreeing on a price.

Also, the first day in Delhi we organised a taxi through our hotel, we paid 700 rupees for the day, however we found we were always stuck in traffic so the next day we hired a tuk tuk driver for 500 rupees for the day and covered a lot more ground.

Tuk tuk or taxi driver will take you to places in city. Guides at the monuments has the knowledge of history, architectural detail of that place and expert in telling story about the place.

Full day in Jaipur, half day in Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Bikaner will cover the main sights. If depends on your travelling style. It is perfectly possible and easy to do it all without a guide, but guides are so relatively inexpensive in India, that we tend to use them, because they have far more information than is available in the standard guide books.

You do need to make clear at the start that you don't want to visit any shops, because a shop, where the guide hopes to make some commission, is often part of the tour.
