Some honest advice please

Hi

We have never visited Sharm before but quite fancy going in feb for a weeks winter break, i have heard good and bad comments about sharm from various people who have visited, main gripe with some of the people i know who visited was the food in the hotels so im thinking maybe going b+b instead of All inclusive trouble is i wouldnt have a clue which is the best area to stay in if i did choose to go just b+b i.e where are there some good restaurants and is it as cheap to eat out as people say it is ?

Thanks to anyone who can offer me any advice on b+b or all inclusive

Hi there

I only ever go b & b that's my preference. I like to eat out in Sharm as there are lots of very good restaurants covering all price ranges. However I do like to eat at the hotel as well as the food there is very good and there is a good choice of restaurants, so probably about 50 - 50 split..

I now stay about 10 mins from Naama Bay, I prefer to stay away from the 'lively areas' and just visit. So the Maritim Jolie Ville Golf ticks all the boxes for me. I have also stayed at the Iberotel Palace in Old Sharm and the Hilton Waterfalls at Ras Um El Sid, I would stay at both again, but not AI. I have also stayed at the Maritim Jolie Ville Casino, I wouldn't return, it really wasn't for me.

Hotels in Naama Bay are mainly b & b, this is the main area. Old Sharm only has a couple of hotels, the Iberotel Palace being one, the nearest area for Old Sharm is Ras Um El Sid/Hadaba (a great area) Sharks Bay has mainly AI hotels as does Nabq the newest area and furthest from Naama Bay.

Check the Tips at the top of the messages and the questions down the right hand side, lots of relevant info and maps there

Under Top Q, over on the right of the page, there are links to resort maps; here is the Na'ama Bay one:

The Lido is in the bottom left part of the map ~ look for the anchor icon & it's the 1st hotel left of that.

If going B&B or room only you really need to make sure of where abouts you are booking.Like lots of tourist destinations around the world sharm is one of those that seems to have excess land and as such some of the hotels are built in the middle of nowhere, with absolutely nothing around them, you could find yourselves literally miles from anywhere to eat.As has been mentioned Naama bay fits the bill,I love the place, others hate it,but at least everything is there.

Have stayed in both Naama Bay and Sharks Bay we both definitely prefer Naama for strolling around at night and the beach by day, There is loads to see and do with plenty of reasonable priced restaurants and its very lively. I think it would be much more suitable for someone on a B+B basis.Though it is not everyone's choice due to the hustle and bustle.

While staying in Sharks bay we had to taxi it to venture out at night (£9 return fares booked through the hotel) although the hotel we stayed in was excellent and we only left it twice,

We always stay on an A/I basis as this works for us and have never had a problem with food.

LOL so how does that post help the OP then Steve :-))

I've stayed at Nabq Bay, Sharks Bay, Ras um Sid & near Namma Bay, for what you want you really need to stay in a hotel in Namma Bay,as that is where you will get bars and restaurants in numbers, There are places to eat elsewhere for example if you stayed in Sharks Bay you could go to Soho Square, but probably not enough to keep you going for a week, in the same way as NB.

It's cheap to eat out, but it's not cheap to drink out if that makes sense.

We prepher all inclusive as it works out more economical for us with food/drink. We like to go out for the odd meal to break it up. Theres a few eating places at Soho Square but not too much to be honest, you would be better in Namma Bay but check walking distances from your hotel into the centre. There were the usual chain restraunts tgi fridays, hard rock cafe, mcDonalds etc, seemed a lot of egyptian restraunts in the centre

B&B for us as well so we can actually spend our money in local places. To do this I think it would have to be Naama Bay. It's swings and roundabouts really, there are plenty of places to eat but it's busy and you can get hassle
