Getting back after game at National Arena

Hello,

We will be attending a soccer match in November as away team fans - game starts at around 10 pm.

Seeing as the metro seems to stop at 11 pm and the away fans will probably be allowed out after midnight, , how do we get back to city center? is there a safety issue with away teams after the match?

Taxis for the over 2000 fans expected could take a while...

Thanks, Shlomi

Normally, when there is a big football match, the metro schedule gets extended so that fans can take the metro to their homes or hotels, so you will most likely benefit from this. However, rarely, this does not happen, as was the case with the Steaua - Sporting Lisbon match. But in Steaua's latest Europa League match, with Viktoria Plzen, they extended the schedule, so most likely it will be the same in your case (I am assuming you will attend Steaua - Hapoel Be'er Sheva).

If not, it's going to be a problem indeed. You could try finding an Uber, but Uber have dynamic tariffs which depend on the demand, which means that even if you find one, it's gonna cost you a lot. Taxis waiting for people in front of the stadium might try to rip you off since you are a foreigner, so maybe it would be best to walk 10-15 minutes away from the stadium and then call a taxi or try to order one using an app.

Normally there is no problem with away fans, unless they are from rival teams, which is not the case.

Slightly after midnight there will be some night buses, N102 on the road north of the stadium and N109 on the road south (which may nonetheless be closed).

After that until ~3:00 it's just taxis, Uber, Taxify or walking.

I don't think there will be any serious incidents with local fans.

Alterme is right, but it depends a lot on when they let you out. The last N102 before 3:00 is at 00:14 and you need to walk 5-20 mins (depending on which part of the stadium you are on) to the station where you can take it. The last N109 before 3:30 is at 0:23. Same, you have to walk a few minutes to get to the station.

Thanks! Since other fans have managed in the past, I assume it can be done - it just seems a bit vague - hard to see how a night bus accommodates thousands of fans.

I'll hope the metro works.

Are there enough Ubers around at 1 am?

Looking forward to visiting Bucharest!

Thanks again, Shlomi

There are a lot of Ubers even so late, but the problem is there will be a lot of people requesting them. Still, you can probably find one, but it will be very expensive. I once paid 4x the normal tariff after a music concert in another town in Romania, so it will surely also be the case here.

Use Uber. You can book a trip in advance!

Thanks - I will try this. Any suggestions on location to walk to for Uber meet that will be accessible for the Uber with thousands of fans around? and enable us to meet the Uber in peace?

Most people will be heading west from the stadium and generally along main streets; have him meet you on the back streets east of the stadium.

For the sake of future readers: after the match chaos ensued with 4000 away fans trying to get taxis, and the latter demanding fairs of 150 Lei (and sometime more) to go to the city center.

The Uber plan worked fine - 5 minute walk away from the stadium to a quiet street and a 5 minute wait for the Uber.

Thanks for the idea!
