advice for 2 nights from Buenos Aires

We will be in Buenos Aires for 12 days, and are planning a 2 night visit to Montevideo, probably Dec 22-24. I mention the specific dates in case Christmas Eve timing would be problematic for us either in Montevideo or our return.

We will be traveling with my inlaws, with a total of 6 adults and 1 child. I'm assuming a hotel would be best (3 rooms) for two nights. My husband's parents cannot comfortably walk far, so location will be important to us.

Would be grateful for any suggestions on what would be the nicest spot for us to stay. We're considering the Radisson and the Alma Historica Boutique Hotel, for example.

Thanks for any advice!

I also have one more question . . . Any tips on what would be the best way to spend time there for my 5 yr old daughter? I'm wondering if we'll want to do beach days or do whatever the rest of our group is doing. Is the beach very nice for a 5 yr old? Thanks for any thoughts about that.

For those dates, I would suggest you stay in the Pocitos area close to the beach. Then take a cab or Uber to go places you want to visit. It’s a weekend and the old city area will be empty, especially that the 24th falls on a Monday this year. It’ll also be much warmer than on any of the areas closer to the ocean.

The beach in Montevideo is okay for kids. Not to be disappointed, just remember that it is not on ocean waters but Rio de la Plata, kind of the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean—this color of water could be more brownish than blue. The beach itself is like Ocean City, MD. I was born and raised in Montevideo, and Pocitos was the beach where we used to go. Lots of kids. But things may have changed. It’s always better to ask in the hotel what beach they recommend for your daughter’s age once you get there.
