Wheelchair accessible Penguin viewing around Stanley

A friend and I have 1 day in Stanley, January 29. He uses a wheelchair and is assisted by me. Where can we view Penguins that is accessible by wheelchair? Hiring a vehicle and driver/guide is no problem for a private photo tour, but where to go?

It looks like Yorke Point and Gypsy Cove both require a hike of a few hundred meters.

Thanks!

Access to Gypsy Cove and York Bay has changed since I lived there, but I don't think wheelchair access has been introduced. I may be wrong. Probably best checking with the Tourist Office or an operator like Penguin Travel which runs the shuttle service to Gypsy Cove.

Hope you enjoy your day.

Thanks, but you didn't provide any contact info. "Tourist office"?

Hi, I assumed you would Google the organisations I mentioned. There's not that many tourist companies in the Falklands. But I've never contacted them via email, so don't have their details to hand.

In fact, given that on some days visitors outnumber residents, I'd recommend booking transport in advance.

Cheers

So you are giving advice about organizations you've never contacted? For a place you haven't lived in for a while? Thanks but maybe time for you to find a new hobby.

Hi Peter,

You seem very quick to to jump to (wrong) conclusions. I've never emailed those organisations because, for over 6 years, I could and did talk face to face with the people running them. I worked for a sister organisation of Penguin Travel, in the same office for a while.

I undertook a Tour Guide certificate course run by the Tourist Office. At no time was email the way to to communicate when I live a short walk from those organisations.

I hope that clarifies.

I used to, as you can easily check, post all the links and details of Falklands companies, but rarely got any thanks, so felt there wasn't a need for me to do it. Especially when well-travelled tourists are involved. How difficult could it be to Google "Falklands tourist office"? Why should I bother, I thought.

I tend to try and provide information that is not readily available - like whether Gypsy Cove is accessible to wheelchairs.

If you want to ignore my advice, that's your choice. I won't lose any sleep over it. But those organisations are the ones which will get you there and they will know. Sorry if you had to do a Google search to get their details. Maybe a little more self-reliance and self-awareness wouldn't go amiss.

Happy Travels!
