taxi -v- mrt

Arriving 15 March for 5 days. As there are 4 adults in our group travelling to various parts of Singapore - Night safari, Turf Club, shopping malls etc. can I assume that taxi's would be just as economical to use as opposed to MRT or public transport?

Will probably use the cable car to sentosa - this sounds like fun!

We are staying at Marina Bay sands so will be using their free airport shuttle to get to and from airport.

Thanks.

Taxi will be cheaper for some journies, quicker and more expensive for longer journies, slower & more expensive around town during peak times and hard to find when it rains. You will need to make use of both modes of transport to make the most of your stay.

It depends on time of day and whether a location is near MRT station. During peak periods there are additional surchages on taxis and at the same time MRT trains would be crowded. If you're going to the night safari, taxi is a better option. As for the turf club, it's next to Kranji mrt so could be cheaper to take mrt there. (depending where you're coming from)

Visit www.gothere.sg to plan your routes on public transport - buses, trains and taxis. It shows you the cost, duration and route from point A to point B.

YES, especially for short distances - taxi is more money wise to use. And i am sure you understand that it`s the best optin for convenience and comfort as well.

Also remember that taxis taken from MBS incur yet another surcharge of $3 in addition to all the otherFlag down/ CBD/Peak hour/ ERP charges. A MRT journey around town is around 70cents a person using the EZlink card.

Thanks everyone. Great link accidentaltourist!!

I understand the taxi fares are going to be higher during peak traffic times - what would you say are the peak times??

Also why is there an additional surcharge at MBS - anyone know??

MBS is in CBD area, so if you flag a taxi there between 5pm to midnight you'll have to pay S$3 surcharge. There's also a S$3 location surcharge for MBS between 6am to 4.59pm.

On top of that, the usual peak hour surcharge (6pm to midnight) or midnight surcharge (midnight to 5.59am) also applies.

Basically, flagging a taxi at MBS (and also Resorts World Sentosa) is relatively more expensive than from other hotels.

You can read more about taxi surcharge at http://www.taxisingapore.com/taxi-fare/
