Bicycles on Gili T

Where is the best place to hre bikes and how much can we expect to pay?? Is the island fairly flat or is there lots of hills?? Wondering if bike or walking is the way to explore. Heading there next week for 3 nights.

Hi Sal - you may get more responses on the Gili T forum, but your hotel should rent bikes for you, or there are rental booths as you walk along the 'road' near the jetty. You can pay hourly or daily, expect to pay around $5 a day. There is a low lying hill in the middle of the island, but if you're just riding around the island on the dirt 'road' that circumvents the island it's quite flat. Do not forget to ring your bell.

Lots of places to hire bikes from, and I think we paid about $5 for the day. We rented from our hotel. Cycling is definitely the way to travel around the island- mostly flat, some sandy patches where you need to get off and push. Stop for a swim or a drink at your leisure. We took snorkelling gear in the basket of the bike and stopped at a couple of spots to snorkel. We watched where the snorkelling tours stopped and just parked our bikes and swam in off the beach ( maybe not so easy at low tide - we were lucky and the tide was high). A lovely way to spend a day. There are also tracks that criss cross across the island in places. We cut across some of these tracks one evening on our bikes to the other side of the island to,watch the sunset. Perhaps a head torch would be handy if coming back in the dark.

You will see many people on bikes. Have fun!

Thanks heaps for the replies. Has been a few years since riding a push bike. Am used to 2 wheels with a big motor!!!! So was happy to hear the island is fairly flat. Great hint re: the torch ackyg !!!

If planning on riding around the whole island, is there places along the way to grab a drink? The good old fashioned pub type crawl.
