Quickest way from The Peak to Tung Chung?

Dear all, your help will be very gratefully received!

We have a 16 hour stopover in Hong Kong.. We have planned a day room at the Novotel Citygate to shower and change after the flight before getting the 360 cable car to Ngong Ping. We then plan to get a bus from Tung Chung to Discovery Bay and a ferry to Central to get to the Peak....

We will be a little short on time getting from The Peak back to the Novotel to collect our luggage and have been unable to find out the best way to do this. MTR looks like the best option but we don't want to miss any scenery so maybe a bus or taxi would be better? Any suggestions?

Thank you very much!

Taxi directly from The Peak to Tung Chung costs around HK$400, takes less than an hour when without traffic jam.

Other options, if no the peak tram has no queue, take it to the Lower Peak Tram Terminus.

And then either taxi to Hong Kong Station, and then take MTR to Tung Chung; or short walk downhill to take bus E11 just opposite the HSBC headquarters. E11 has a stop near MTR Tung Chung Station.

Thank you very much Tin! Taxi sounds good value and may be worth paying to ensure we don't miss our flight!

However, should we decide to get MTR or bus as suggested how long will it take do you think? Thanks again for your help!

If you are armed with an Octopus Card, the quickest and reasonable cost method is to take green mini bus ($8.40 per person last I checked) to Hong kong Station. From HK Station, you can then take Tung Chung line back to tung Chung Station. The Green Mini Bus is relatively advantageous in terms of time because you go straight from The Peak to Hong Kong Station and it doesn't typically make too many stops in between. If you take the tram down, you'd still need to connect to Hong Kong Station via a taxi.

Amy, I'm not sure when you are going but the 360 cable car is closed until the end of September for maintenance. We are going in a couple of weeks and are disappointed we can't ride it. There are bus alternatives up to the Big Buddha.

AmyLJ,

From the Peak, allow 1 hour 20 minutes for MTR, or 1 hour 45 minutes for bus E11.

Thanks again everyone for your very helpful responses. I think we'll see how it pans out and get a taxi only if we really have to - be a shame to waste our $HK on a taxi when it could preferably spent on plenty of dim-sum!

Nimroth - I know, it must be hugely disappointing for anyone who's in HK when Ngong Ping is closed... Do you know you can take a cable-car ride at Ocean Park? Won't be like the 360 but I gather should still get some amazing views....
