Half day in Chongqing - Do we need a guide?

We are arriving at Chongqing Jiangbei airport at 1pm, prior to boarding a Yangtze River cruise that same evening. That leaves us about 5+ hours to get from the airport to town, sightsee a bit, and have dinner, before boarding the boat. I was thinking we might walk around Ciqikou Old Town, take the cable car ride over the river, not sure what else.

I'm not sure whether we need a guide, or whether we can just get around independently by cab and on foot. We have traveled a bunch and usually like to explore on our own, but we do not speak or read any Chinese and we don't want to get totally lost in a strange city. We also will have our luggage with us, so we will need a place to store it while we walk around.

I contacted one recommended guide, but he wants $200 (USD), which seems a bit excessive for 5 hours (but, maybe I am used to traveling in less expensive places?). Any suggestions would be appreciated.
