Long layover at the airport

I have a 6.5 hours layover at Ataturk Airport (IST) and I don't really want to pay $60 of eVisa just for the 2 hours that I would enjoy in the city.

What's to do in the airport for such a long layover?

Oceanik, You have 3 hours net in the city. I would definitely visit the city. Just take a taxi from the airport to Sultanahmet and visit Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque and walk the Hippodrome a bit. That should be sufficient. Take a taxi back to the airport 3 hours before departure. Taxi, one way, should cost about 70 TL. On your return, you can have one of the numerous hotels there call a taxi for you. They all use meters.

American citizens pay only 20 USD for evisa so I assume you have different citizenship. "www.evisa.gov.tr/en/".

good luck,

Thanks Enigma!

Had I been in the free-to-$20 bucket I would have gladly jumped on a cab and visited the city.

At $60 per visa, I may wait for another opportunity and go for a few days.

People watch! Atatürk airport must be one of the best places I know to sit back and watch the world go by (literally).
