Few questions about the airport

Our trip getting really close, and I have just few mores things I need to know

Once we land at Male airport, where do we go to take the seaplane transfer?

Also where do we pay for excess luggage? At the lounge? Before departure? Or should we go elsewhere to pay before heading to the lounge?

And the most important - Our flight out of the Maldives is at 23:25. The resort told me the latest seaplane is at 16:00, and the resort time is 1 hour ahead of Male, so it means we will land at Male at 16:00. 3 hours before 23:25 is 20:25, which means we will have 4 hours with nothing to do before the regular “3 hours before flight” thing. Anything to do to kill those 4.5 hours?

Hi Dodobar. You must be really excited!

When you have cleared immigration and customs you will exit, into the arrivals hall where there will be lots of resort representatives waiting so you should look around for your resort name on the boards they hold up. If there is no sign of him, ( he may be escorting othermguests to,the check in desk), you will see that there are lots of kiosks with the resort names on them. You could email your resort for their kiosk number before you travel but otherwise just ask one of the other reps, they are very helpful.

Once you meet your rep he will escort you to the seaplane check-in desk which is only a few metres away. It is here that your luggage will be weighed and you will be advised of any charges. It will be taken from you, together with any cabin bags with wheels or any large holdalls, to be stored in the hold of the seaplane. Only very small bags may be kept,on your person so be prepared for any items deemed large to be taken from you on boarding to be stored behind the seating area.

You will then be escorted to a bus which will take you to the seaplane lounge. You need to report to the desk there. Some resorts have their own private lounges. You need to listen out and watch the boards for your departure and then you will go to another holding lounge where small bottles of water will be available in fridges if you want them.

To kill time at the airport, I believe there are some new food and beverage outlets. Otherwise you could pay to spend some time at the Airport hotel. There are various packages available. Here is a link to a similar question

Just to add to what Dianna53 has said, please note, just because the last sea plane is 16:00, do not assume that will be your departure time, it will be up to TMA who make up the schedules and you will be notified the night before. There may be more drop offs or pick ups en route to Male and unsettled weather conditions forecast and this will all be factored in so you may leave significantly earlier than this. Our seaplane departure was brought forward on the morning we were due to travel at the last minute a couple of weeks ago as severe weather was due.

Also as you say, ou are not allowed access to the departure terminal to check in until 3 hours before your departure time, i.e 20.25 however some resorts allow departing guests to use their "arrival" lounge in the sea plane terminal until that time, sometimes for a fee but there are some new food outlets at the airport you can access if not.

Once you land and have passed through immigration and baggage claim you'll exit the arrivals hall and will be welcomed by a representative for your resort. They will accompany you across the hall to the seaplane check in area. Here your combined baggage for your party will be weighed, you'll be checked in for your flight and your luggage checked in. Any excess baggage charges will be taken here and are for the return journey.

You'll then be directed to a small coach just steps away from the check in desks; these will drive you around to the seaplane terminal. Some resorts have private lounges within the terminal, but if yours isn't one of those you'll wait in a large open lounge with WC's, plenty of seating and a cafe (no alcohol of course). You can pass away the time watching the seaplanes coming and going from the lounge and the boarding gates once your flight is allocated a gate.

Seaplanes only fly in daylight hours, so it isn't unusual to be looking for time to kill before a late night international departure from MLE. We've done this a couple of times. The first time we took the free shuttle bus to the Hulhumale hotel a short drive from the airport, had a meal and chilled out in the lounge for a while before heading back to the airport. You can buy a "package" which gives you a dayroom, use of the pool etc but we felt these were quite expensive and passed on this.

Last year we used the lounge at the airport once we were able to check in and pass through the formalities for our flight. It's fine; plenty of seating, hot and cold snacks and drinks (again no alcohol of course), free wifi etc.

There is a new road bridge to Male as well as the ferries so you could check your luggage at the left luggage facility at the airport and head to the city, which really isn't a tourist attraction but it's "sights" as they are can be seen in a couple of hours, finished off by a stop at the roof terrace of the Hotel Jen before heading back across to the airport island.

So we can just put our luggage on hold, take the ferry to Male, spend 2-3 hours there and get back to the airport.

But if we store the luggage on our arrival, and we go to departure when we come back, is it accessible? How do we get from the arrival hall where we store our luggage to departure?

Also any fast food chain in Male?

And since we won’t have wifi, I hope not to get lost and not to find the ferry area in Male

The arrival and departure 'terminals' are actually one and the same terminal and about 20m from each other. The luggage storage is outside the airport so easy to get to no matter where you're coming from.

You can't possibly miss the ferry area in Male, don't worry.

Which island are you going to? If there's a domestic transfer option perhaps you could switch the return to domestic transfer?
