Holiday Gems

Hello,

I am expecting a call today from Holiday Gems for a holiday to Meeru Island Resort. I have found couple of topics on Tripadvisor forum regarding this travel agency, with some negative feedback, although the topics are a bit old. Has anyone booked a holiday recently with them? I can see a lot of positive reviews on Trustpilot.

Thank you

Hi, thank you for your feedback. Travelbag was my first choice, but after reading some reviews I chose to skip them. I came across Holiday gems while browsing online and saw they have quite a few positive reviews on Trustpilot, hence why I'm asking for a second opinion here. Are Trustpilot reviews dodgy?

I'll give the agencies mentioned above a call today and see.

Thanks

You can also check with Scott Dunn, they're not often mentionned here but I booked with them and their service is 5 star.

I did not travel yet but so far I am satisfied with their customer service, following up on my request, contacting the resort etc..

And I had a great deal!

I have booked with holiday gems for a trip to Maldives in February 2018 staying at Kurumba. Have paid the deposit with balance due in December. No issues so far but I will be checking the hotel have received my booking before I pay the final balance. They were cheaper by up to £1000 compared to the standard agents mentioned on this forum.

Hi, sorry I've been away a few days, but have chased up now all the agencies mentioned above.

Purely Maldives - £3900

Simply Maldives - £3800 - wasn't impressed with the lady I've spoken to, she was very short with her answers.

Magic of Maldives - £3900

Travelbag - £3900

Holiday gems - £4100 (prices are different than advertised online) + I had to request 4 call backs.

Emirates Holidays - £3900

Preferred Travel fleet - £3700 (someone recommended them over PM). They are ATOL and ABTA protected, but can't find any reviews on this forum about them. Has anyone booked with them before?

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Personally, I'd now politely ask the agents I trust if there is any way they can match the best price, with the understanding that they may or may not be able to...then, whatever the outcome, I'd potentially book with someone I had knew and had faith in for the sake of £100 or so on a £4k holiday.

Out of your list I would go with one of the trusted Maldives agents. And as simply are the cheapest out of them and I have enjoyed excellent service from them it would be Simply Maldives for me.

Checking with the island whether your booking has been received is no guarantee - as the cautionary tales show. The untrustworthy agent may simply cancel your booking before your arrive.

Do use your credit card to protect yourself, and yes, I'd only use a recommended agent who may be able to price match.

In these days of internet enquiries spare a thought for the agents who are expected to be online 24/7 with enquiries from all over the world.

Travelbag are now £3689. I've seen a lot of people booking with them without any issues.

I have also e-mailed the 3 Maldives agencies asking them if they could match this price.

Thanks for the help
