Bangkok floods late october

So my daughter is traveling to Bangkok at the end of this week. I see on tv that the floodwaters in Bangkok are not receding and the evacuation centers were themselves evacuated so what's the deal on traveling to the area right now? She is going

off to Chaing Mai and Phuket before returning to the capital for a few more days

Hi,

The part about going to Chiang Mai and Phuket is a non-event as far as the flood situation in Bangkok goes

The situation here in Bangkok remains very unstable as waters are in and near the immediate area, BUT at present there's NO impact or flooding in the city's central business district and all malls, and major tourist attractions are open and operating as normal. The same applies for the Suvarnabhumi airport as well.

Today for example was a beautifully sunny and hot day, but that underlies the fact that the situation remains unresolved, but in the city center, it was, for the most part, business as usual.

The situation however does remain very unstable as we do not know for sure where the waters will or won't go, and how 'bad' they might be..

if you do choose to come, you should be prepared with a plan B.

Travel Safe,

What plan B would you suggest?

If it gets bad will thai airways waive the fees to make other bookings?

If she can avoid Bangkok, she should do so. There are considerable risks (including a shortage of drinking water). She can extend her stay in Phuket or Chiangmai and just transit through Bangkok Airport, which is fine.

If she needs to transit or stay a day or two in BKK I would personally come but then again some people want minimal risk and guarantees which none of us can sadly make.

Australian Govt advises do not stay in Bangkok. The Suvarnabhumi International Airport though is fine. Your daughter needs to register her details with www.smartraveller.gov.au in case of emergencies.
