A co-worker said on their last trip to Kenya they were able to feed giraffes. That seems like it would be alot of fun, does anyone know if there are any opportunities to feed a giraffe anywhere by Kruger? I couldnt find much these forums. Thanks,

Go to a Zoo to do that. Do not feed wild animals as that makes them dependent on humans. It also removes their natural fear of humans and that makes them a lot more vulnerable to poaching.
It also can become a problem for humans as happened in Cape Point where people insisted on feeding the baboons and now monitors have try and control their aggressive home invasions.
Obviously giraffes may not become aggressive but the principle is the same.
Can see it now... aggressive giraffes attacking an old lady, trying to get into her backpack for the bag of crisps, taking and running off with her camera.... Oh no!
This must surely be a wind up? Nobody with any interest in the conservation of animals would suggest feeding wild animals!
Edited: 11 years agoThey are not suggesting feeding wild animals! They are looking for an animal sanctuary or the like where there might be the possibility of feeding giraffe. The place their friend maybe referring to in Kenya has tame giraffe that roam about the grounds of a manor house but there are probably other places as well. I am not familiar with anything in the KNP area of South Africa.
1. Why would anyone want to tame a giraffe?
2. Why would you need a sanctuary for giraffe? If a giraffe can't cut it, the giraffe dies. It is called survival of the fittest.
3. Giraffe are perfectly capable of feeding themselves.
