beach/seaweed conditions

We are heading to Placencia for our honeymoon in a week. Any updates on beach conditions? We will make the best of it no matter what, but would love an update. Thanks!

We are here now. Very minimal amount on the beach. From what the locals say, the worst of it is over.

The worst will come and go in the entire Caribbean, from Africa across, until the conditions that created this phenomenon, cease. And that wont happen.

We’re in Hopkins and the first part of the week there was none. Now a big batch has washed up yesterday since the seas have gotten rougher.

We are here now. The water clarity is 0 and lots of seaweed; but the water 💦 is nice and cool....makes for wonderful tropical views, and the seaweed does not affect the incredibly beautiful relaxing sound of the waves...or beautiful walks along the beach. 🏝

Hi, is anyone able to provide an update regarding the seaweed situation in the Placencia area? I'm thinking of going in November and want to know if things have at least improved since the summer.

I follow the Placencia Breeze on facebook and they were amazing about posting the updates and efforts from a few weeks ago. Might be a good place to check for photos etc

We were just there Sept 14-18. According to Placencia What's Happening(facebook) they just did a big clean up the first few weeks of Sept. The beach looked fine at the pier some grass floating in the water etc. Unfortunately, the smell was really bad in the Seine Bight area and very noticeable in Placencia but not as bad as Seine Bight. We stayed at a hotel in Maya Beach and did not notice the smell in that area at all. We walked around in Placencia a few times, ate at a few different places so the smell was tolerable but we were glad we were staying in Maya Beach. It may be a totally different scenario by November:)
