Bus schedule update

Improved connections between eastern Mexico and Belize

Aerocaribe, a regional Mexican airline provides service between the Yucatan city of Cancun and Belize City. Flights operate on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays: Departing Cancun at 2:10 pm; arriving in Belize City at 2:25 pm (a one-hour time change). Return flights depart Belize City at 2:55 pm; arriving in Cancun at 5:10 pm. Round trip fare, which has increased considerably, is approximately US$250. (If tickets are purchased in Belize, BZ$542.60.) PLEASE NOTE: This service is seasonal.

For reservations and information: In Belize, call Belize Global Travel, telephone: 501-2-77363, fax: 501-2-75213, e-mail: bzadventur@btl.net; In the US, call Mexicana Airlines at 800-531-7921; Elsewhere, contact any Mexicana agent.

For those with more time than money, another alternative is to travel by bus. To do this, you must take two buses. From the main terminal in Cancun center, several companies run air-conditioned buses to Chetumal (near the Belize border) at various times of the day. (NOTE: There are published timetables in the local paper, but these are not accurate. Your best bet is to go to the terminal to check current schedules.) The fare is less than US$20 and there are about five departures a day. The trip takes almost five hours. The earliest departure is 6:00 a.m., which gets you to Chetumal in time to catch the second "Premier" service (Novelo's Bus Line) bus to Belize City from the same terminal. The only way to reserve a seat on routes within Mexico is to purchase an advance ticket at the terminal. (The Belize line WILL take phone reservations.)

At the Chetumal terminal, you will find a Novelo's Bus Line counter where you can buy tickets to Belize. They run several times a day to Belize City. At least two of those are the "Premier" service, an express, air-conditioned bus with snack service. The Premier departs Chetumal at 10:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. The fare is about US$10, and the trip takes about 2 hours. They also run regular buses about every hour and the fare is cheaper. Bear in mind that these buses make numerous stops and can add a few hours to your journey to Belize City. Phone in Belize: 501-2-72025 & 73929, for more details on schedules and reservations.

Hi I just checked and no flight exist from Cancun to Belize City. You either take a bus from Cancun to Chetumal and take a bus or a taxi from Chetumal to Belize. As for the bus information and time table there is an online website that can be visited and you could even make your reservation online www.ticketbus.com.mx. Or get a private transfer, I usually use Belize VIP Transfer Service they offer first class service and can help with anything I need www.belizetransfers.com

The bus from Cancun takes 6 hours not 5 and the local bus service from Chetumal to Corozal is unstable and uncomfortable. They offer the worse service I have ever witnessed.
