night snorkelling

Has anyone done the night snorkelling tour to Hol Chan? I read something about cool luminescence at night time. Does this happen just at certain times of the year? Is it anywhere in the water at night or just certain area?

Sounds like fun and something to see....

Oh....OK.....that makes me feel better. I really do want to see this phenomenon. I will look into companies that offer this.

Thanks for clarifying. :)

funny - my concern about these bull sharks was due to a comment you made in a post about night snorkeling Jean!

the only other place I ever heard bull sharks mentioned was on an (Australian?) episode of Househunters International, where they were looking at a house on water that they couldnt swim in due to bull sharks

I've seen that episode of House Hunters. I wouldn't trust those kids not to go swimming in that inviting water.....

I guess I won't talk about the bull sharks any more. Maybe we should switch to hammerheads......

True, there's lots to see in the night time reef. But it you go out in the pitch dark, it's a wee bit eeerie to take that first leap into the black water. Maybe you're too old to fear monsters under your bed, but monsters in the black ocean?

It's super scary and that is part of what makes it so good. There are a few glowing things...but I don't remember a ton. Like my snorkel guide suggested...if you see something scary, turn off your flashlight.
