Renting Golf Cart for 4-day stay

I'm renting a place with a friend and understand one needs a golf cart for getting around, The rental companies I've found only do rentals by the hour (usually 2-hour slots). We'd like one that we could park outside our door. Where can I find one?

If you are staying in town, you do not need a golf cart to get around. Everything is within easy walking distance. Avalon is a very small town. If you are staying out at Hamilton Cove, those condos come with a golf cart that you can use during your stay.

Yes, we go for 3-4 days and walk everywhere, but do rent one to go up the hills on either side to get some fabulous shots of the boats in the bay or the famous casino. There is also a restriction of what roads you can drive on around town.

You can download the map from the golf cart rentals site in advance.

Totally agree, no need for a golf cart each day. Maybe for a day if you want to get "the lay of the land." We we walked all over Avalon, including to and from the Botanical garden. If you need a break from the walk, stop at the Nature Conservancy building for a restroom, bottle of water, souviner. There's a restaurant/bar at the golf course you'll walk past, they feature an early happy hour, another stop!

I do recommend the Catalina Island Conservancy off-road tour, to see the wild side of the island:

I think there are 2 Von's grocery stores in town for drinks/snacks. Prices comparable to mainland. I expected them to be higher, so brought wine/cheese/crackers from home, you don't need to do this.

We usually just book the golf cart for 2 hours to drive around and check things out. Otherwise, we just walk everywhere. There is also a taxi service in town.

I'm glad to hear how walkable Avalon is, but we are two ladies in our 70s and one of us needs a cane (or perhaps a walker) to walk very far at all (i.e., a block or more). So we will need something like a cart to get around. Still hoping there is some company that does this.

Are you renting a place back from the water and boardwalk or right up front across from the water. We stay at Pavilion Hotel and shops and restaurants are in the same block. They have a large grassy patio with tables and chairs that you can come rest at all day.

When you get off the Catalina Express there is a taxi service to take you to the hotel, though many can walk. The carts are not allowed on all streets, or people would mow down the tourists walking and looking in the shops on the main drag.

A taxi is easy.

Thanks to all who mentioned a taxi service. That would probably do us fine.

SLO,

As seniors, you should be able to use dial-a-ride for very discounted taxi rates, if it's still operating. You could contact Catalina Transportation Services (310-510-0025) to inquire.

Many of the rental condos on the island offer the use of a cart that belongs to the unit owner. If you haven't decided on the rental unit yet, this is the way to go on the island.
