Place to stay

We will be in Washington DC June 4th - 8th. We have 2 adults and 3 children ages 13, 14, and 16. We are looking for an inexpensive hotel (no higher than $150/night) preferably with a swimming pool. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Numerous threads on where to stay. Check Downtown, Dupont Circle and Penn Quarter.

Embassy Suites and other suite hotels are available.

Check hotels.com, orbitz, etc. to see if your budget is even reasonable.

There is also a thread, probably on the first couple of pages, which lists hotels with pools.

Have a look at the Harrington Hotel.

It's between the White House and the Capitol ... so in a great location.

Not sure if they have a pool ... but they have rooms that will sleep 5.

It's not five star - but will suit your budget.

Will you be driving or flying to DC, Sarah? If driving, please know there is no hotel in DC which includes parking in its quoted rates, and that parking can add quite a bit to the tariff, as much as $35/day.

If you will be coming by car, the new Hilton Garden Inn Bethesda seems to be one of the best possibilities for you: they have a package which includes parking, breakfast and a room with 2 queen beds for $133/night. It does have a pool and is within easy walking distance to the Bethesda station on the Metro's Red line, about a 20-minute ride to DC's MetroCenter stop, a "hub" for the Metro system where you can easily transfer to other lines if need be.

You will, however, need to call the hotel directly to ascertain whether they will put a family of 5 into one room. The online reservations system is rejecting the request for 2 adults + 3 kids, but perhaps the hotel itself will do so.

If that $150/night need not cover parking expenses, then give the Omni Shoreham a call. Rooms with 2 queen beds are available there for your dates @ $133/night under their Weekend Retreat promotional rate. But again, the online booking system is declining to accept the reservation for a family of 5... although I know the hotel does have some rollaways.

This is more than $40/night cheaper than the Hotel Harrington and a much nicer, 4* hotel with outdoor pool and lovely landscaped grounds, gracious public areas... and welcoming of families.
