We are planning a one way trip across North dakota (we are then looping back through South Dakota)....in June next year.. We plan to spend about 5 or 6 days to drive across North Dakota,
We are in the initial stages of planning and so would like to know what else to consider, places to see; lodging recommendations (have listed our current thoughts)....We are having a family reunion in Nisswa, Minnesota (124 miles away from Fargo). We are starting from Gillette, Wyoming (after spending our first few days in Wyoming elsewhere)
1) Day One and Two: Drive 340ish miles to Theodore National Park - stay in area 2 nights
a) Is it best to stay in Watford (i.e. Watford Hotel) or Medora?
2) Day Three and Four: Drive 182 miles to Bismarck North Dakota - See Fort Mandan, North Dakota Heritage Center, Lewis and Clark Riverboat Cruise, Lincoln State Park, Capitol.
Stay at Best Western Ramkota Hotel
Day 5 - Drive to Fargo, stopping by Jamestown (102 miles away) to see Buffalo Museum; then on to Fargo100 more miles and see a movie at Fargo Theater. See plains Art museum or see it on day 6 on way before driving to Minnesota.
Stay in Fargo at
BEST WESTERN PLUS Kelly Inn & Suites
Day 6: Possibly see Plains Art Museum and drive to Minnesota
Is there anything more we should add to list (or suggest not seeing?)
Any place we should consider staying at (especially around Roosevelt National Park)
Any thing we should definitely do in North Dakota to make this a fun vacation?
we like about anything - active couple but plan more to see things than to take hikes, bikes, etc. in North Dakota - plan to do that in South Dakota part of trip. We are open to short hikes, etc. if its something great to see.
Thanks in advance.
