Highway 321

I see there is a highway 321 from Columbia south to I-95 at the Georgia border. Any comments on this road as a more liesurely, relaxing route vs I-77/95. Is there much to do or see? Road quality?

I've taken 321 from around Gaston all the way down to Hardeeville. It's a mix of 2 lane undivided and 4 lane divided highway. It's really as nondescript a stretch of highway you might find around. The condition of the road was just fine but you won't see much except for some pine forest and a logging truck or 2. I would consider it more leisurely just in the sense that the speed limit is obviously lower than the Interstate and you shouldn't have big rigs flying past you. Except maybe for the occasional local in a farm truck who passes you in the no passing lanes.

Outside of Rock Hill to Gaston county, NC 321 runs through rural areas and very small towns...some good BBQ along the way. Get through larger Gastonia, NC and it's a nice, not too crowded 4 lanes highway, several towns along the way. Outside of Gaston county, it starts becoming more rolling hills with pretty farms/barns to see along the way. 321 eventually takes you up to the High Country of NC, first the lovely historic village, Blowing Rock, NC, then on to Boone, NC, home of Appalachian State University. http://www.exploreboone.com/ Lots of beautiful mountain scenery, great hiking and other outdoorsy activites throughout the area, plus the Blue Ridge Parkway is right off 321 in Blowing Rock. https:/… https://www.highcountrync.com/ Blowing Rock and Boone have lots of great local restaurants, and interesting local shops. Abingdon VA is a beautiful small town, and home of the wonderful Virginia Creeper trail visitabingdonvirginia.com/virginia-creeper-t…
