Slovakian food

Can anyone recommend a restaurant in Bratislava which serves genuine local food. We are staying in the old town and it would be good to be able to sample local food with Slovakians. Any suggestions?

Go to any restaurant at lunchtime if you want to eat like/with Slovaks. Daily menus are chalked up (in Slovak) and most cost between 3.50-4.00 Euro for a quickly served, simple two-course meal.

For evenings it's more difficult to find non touristy places (main meal is at lunchtime anyway) but try Umelka or Trafena Hus (both on Safarikovo Square). They are both pubs but do good hearty food for good prices.

If you don't mind a mixture of tourists, ex-pats, and locals then head for Prasna Basta... great food and service.

I've never been to this place, but I've always wanted to (good menu and very 'local')

I assume they have English menus on the premises.

Or check "eateries" section here...

Basically Slovaks don't go out in the evenings to eat Slovak food, as it tends to be a lot better (and cheaper) at home :)

I like Ako doma, it has both local and international cuisine in rather high quality. It's also nice environment and usually great staff too (although this isn't 100% consistent). In the summer they got lovely terrace.

BUT there is "but" - it's not in city centre. But you can get there in 10 minutes by trolleybus from Hodzovo namestie (President's Palace) + short walk :) You'd get of at Vozovna Hrobonova stop (it's request stop) and then walk a little in direction of trolleybus. If you need more information, like map, just ask. But check akodoma.eu first :)

This is a no-brainer for me. Bratislavsky Mestiansky Pivovar has the most authentic and most delicious Slovak cuisine in town.

There are 2 of them. The first one tends to be full all the time, so it's very difficult to get a table. Just walk to Dunajska in that case.

Thanks! Have checked out their website and it looks very interesting. How far from the Crowne Plaza are these places - we are very happy to walk?
