Hillwalk near Wroclaw

I am going to be in Wroclaw in a few weeks and would like to do a hill/mountain walk while I am there. We will not be hiring a car.

From browsing around the best option I can see so far is to travel by train to Szklarska Poreba to climb Mt Szrenica?

Can anyone help with up with the logistics of this as I cant find much information on how much time to allocate for the climb and what trains to book etc. I would be looking to travel back to Wroclaw on the same day (Sunday 10th June).

Yes, Szrenica is a good choice, Karkonosze are a scenic area and quite different in style than most other mountain ranges (earlier epoch of forming). But (especially with limited time due to returning the same day), my choice would be not to spend time on climbing up to Mt. Szrenica which is rather monotonous in itself, but instead take a chairlift to Szrenica and do a walk at the hilltops, e.g. https://mapa-turystyczna.pl/route?q=50.794752,15.514669;50.78434,15.573506;50.778656,15.557258;50.794752,15.514669 (both trails marked in this proposal - green and red - are very nice, red going at the hilltops and green at the feet of the rocky part).

In Sunday expect a bit of a crowd in the mountains as well as in returning trains, if you can do it e.g. on Monday the day after it might be a nicer moment (of course, in the end just look at the short-term forecast and choose the nicest day regardless of if it's weekend or not).

"what trains to book" - http://rozklad-pkp.pl/en and possibly https://en.e-podroznik.pl/ (the latter includes buses).

"how much time to allocate for the climb" - the website above https://mapa-turystyczna.pl/ is great for experimenting, it's Polish language but you basically can do anything just using the three options under right-click (start, go through, finish).

(PS. Note that https://mapa-turystyczna.pl gives times as you'll the them on official signposts on the trail, i.e. they're meant for not outstanding but rather experienced hikers. You'll probably want to allocate more time, both due to above and due to that the time displayed is raw expected walking time which does not include stops and breaks)

Regarding hill walk. The closest mountain (35 km from Wroclaw, reachable by regional bus) is Sleza Mountain with Sobótka village. It's nice and interesting 2 hours walk.

To get to higher mountains you need more time (i.e. look Karpacz town with Sniezka Mountain).

I second Hoshi-San, the easiest logistically (on public transport) and closest by is Sleza Mountain. Everything else may be bit much to fit on the day trip, unless you are in great shape / condition and don;t mind early start / late arrival and lot of walking. Then check Karpacz.

Also if I were you I'd probably strongly consider Ksiaz Castle. It's easy to reach from Wroclaw and it's stunning place with a park attached to it, with couple different hike routes. If you are more serious about walking, you could try Hochberg trial there, you can start at the castle and take the trial. More about it is here, I have polish version only, but throw into google translate. Then of course you have a Castle itself as a bonus to nice hike trial.
