Independent Guide for a 2 day tour?

We'll be spending two days (one night) in Kakadu in May (24th to 25th) and are looking to hire an independent tour guide to show us around the national park.

We're a family of five adults and we'll be staying in Darwin from May 24th to May 25th. The companies we've spoken to say they'd need us to stay for a longer period, so I was wondering if anyone here could recommend an experienced independent guide?

I understand it's a short period, but we've heard so much about the rock paintings and waterfalls and we'd like to get the most out of our time there.

Yes- its a very short amount of time. You need to provide some more info :

To clarify- are you staying in Kakadu or Darwin ? Kakadu is a 3 hour drive away from Darwin, so you should stay out there somewhere.

Who have you already contacted ?

Would you consider self drive ?

Budget ? A small tour will be expensive , however, that may not be an issue for you.

You could stay at Wildman and get their small tours into Kakadu.

Thanks for your response. We'll probably rent a car from Darwin and drive to Jabiru or around there and spend the night in one of the lodges. We'll need to join an excursion from Jabiru into Kakadu, if such excursions do exist.

Jabiru is in Kakadu.

You actually have few options as most people self drive.

As mentioned above your option is either stay at Wildman which is 1 hour from Kakadu. They run small groups.

This is a cool option as you have permanent glamping or nice little cabins.

Day trips which will pick up in Jabiru or Cooinda - your two options would be

Jabiru is in Kakadu. Look at https://parksaustralia.gov.au/kakadu/ and "plan my trip" for many ideas as to what you can do. From Darwin to Jabiru non stop but following the speed limits allow yourself at least 3 hours driving. Most places you can visit in a ordinary car, Jim Jim Falls requires a 4WD but the track is not open until June at the earliest. Just be aware that there are not many places were food will be available.
