Wollongong Area - Food, Lodging?

Our first visit to Australia in November! Driving to Wollongong area, 3 nights stay, no idea how to select lodging.. so might as well make food/wine plus proximity to beach the criteria. If you can recommend a town or area, would greatly appreciate. Prefer outside Wollongong (North or South?), house rental over hotel, walkable to restaurants and beach, romance over family-style ;)

My partner and I typically use yelp for food rec's - is there a comparable, popular website/service used in Australia? Yelp does not seem to be widely used in the area.

Kiama is a good spot - although I didn't find the dining there fantastic.

Some good dining further south at Berry and a couple of wineries. Not walking distance to a beach, though.

Silos at Jaspers Brush is a winery with a good restaurant - and accommodation but not close to the beach.

Shellharbour is closer to the 'gong, and has restaurants, There are one or two excellent restaurants and some nice secluded bays around.

You need a car for most of these. Kiama can be done by train.

Lee

Absolutely no idea. I believe there may be pubs and/or clubs. Couple of good restaurants.
