NZ itinerary to repetitive

Hi !

We are travelling to NZ in April this year.. excited about it !! Would love some thoughts on your itinerary

Land at Auckland

3 nights - paihia, bay of islands

Fly to Nelson

3 nights - picton - have to visit since we have a friend here

Fly to Christchurch

1 night - lake teapot

2 nights - mount cook

5 nights - queenstown

3 nights - Auckland - have to stay this long since we have a friend here

We want to enjoy the beauty & sights, easy walks & all. Easy access to vegetarian (preferably Indian/ Asian) food is a must. Is this a good itinerary for April ? Or is it too repetitive in terms of sights/ things to do/ experiences?

Is mount cook & queenstown too cold in April ? What kind of weather should i expect?

Awaiting your inputs... Thanks!

<1 night - lake teapot>

LOL - that is one of funniest auto-corrects I have seen for a while!!

<Fly to Nelson> - how many nights do you have here? Are you sure you can get a rental car from Nelson to Marlborough?

<Fly to Christchurch> - where from? How many nights do you have in Chch?

I don't understand the question about "too receptive" - you haven't told us what activities you have planned - but normally there would be kayaking in Nelson; hiking in Picton & Mt Cook; city sightseeing in Chch & adventure activities in QTN

April should be lovely weather by NZ standards - you may find the evenings cold.

You will find Indian food in the cities but not at Mt Cook.

Thanks for the reply

I'm not planning to stay at Christchurch, just land there from Nelson & drive on to Tekapo.

Activities vary but would picton / bay of island / lake tekapo - all be too similar in views ?

Even queenstown is a lake town ?

<land there from Nelson & drive on to Tekapo.> - so you are driving all the way BACK to Nelson (roughly 2 hr) in order to FLY to CHC and then drive to Lake Tekapo (another 3-3:30hr)! This is madness. Assuming you get the 12:30 flight, it will be around 2pm before you leave the airport. I don't get why you are going to Nelson at all.

Are you landing in Auckland, and moving on to Paihia the same day? I hope that you aren't planning to drive immediately you get off a long-haul flight? if so, spend your first day in Auckland taking exercise and fresh air and collect your rental car on day 2.

There are domestic flights with Air NZ to Kerikeri, and Intercity buses from Skycity terminal to Paihia otherwise.
