Flying Aer lingus from Shannon to Edinburgh, economy

Anyone know how strict they are with hand luggage re weight & size?

Do they actually weigh & measure your bag?

Hand luggage restrictions are a little more stringent on this route which is operated by Aer Arran on behalf of Aer Lingus. The aircraft used are turboprops with smaller than average overhead bins, so passengers with oversized and overweigh bags may have a difficult time trying to stow luggage. Not all hand luggage is weighed and measured before AL flights but it can be checked either on a random basis or if it is conspicuously over the limits.

I have flown this route several times and the staff were not strict on checking the size of the bags at the Shannon side of the route.

However, as Domhnall says, the aircraft on this route are smaller and if the flight is busy, they may decide to do random checks.

You are probably aware that the size of the cabin baggage allowed on these flights is smaller than the usual limits, as they are considered Aer Lingus Regional flights.

it depends on how full the flight is but to be honest if your bag is too big the cabin crew will just tag it and put it in the hold for you. hth

My experience of Aer Lingus Regional is that too. They will tag it, put it into the hold and not charge you. In some airports you get it straight back when you're getting off the aircraft.

Be aware though that the ATRs used by Aer Lingus Regional have smaller overhead bins than larger aircraft and for that reason alone, they will pay attention to the handbaggage being brough onboard.

Thanks all.

Have now decided to bring a small roll on as have now realised that we are also flying BMI from Scotland to Belgium & they are worse. They only allow 7K.

Will really try to limit what we take to allow for presents we buy for family.
