The Grange or Oakdene

Hello, We are trying to decide whether to book rooms at the Grange in Coleraine or at the Oakdene in Portrush. Both have great recommendations. We are playing one day at Royal Portrush and then doing some sightseeing. The Grange is run by the old owners of Craig Park and they sound wonderful. Has anyone stayed at the Grange? Also, any advice on a day trip from either area. We will have already seen the Bushmills area(driving from the ferry along the coast) and we will be heading to Dublin and back to Belfast.

Thanks for your help!

Being a local, I haven't stayed in either - Portrush is more touristy as you probably know but is good for eating out at night (Ramore winebar/coast complex, 55 degrees north etc) but the Grange is in a quiet residential area in Coleraine, just off the ring road and opposite the Lodge Hotel which is handy for eating out.

Re day trips, Derry might be an option if you haven't been there yet? You could walk the city walls, there are historic walking tours available and the Tower Museum also is worth a visit. Derry city council website would give you more information.

If you have a car you could visit Derry and also cross the border to Grianan Ailigh (or Aileach) ancient ringfort at Burt not far over the border (about 15/20 minutes drive on the way to Letterkenny) - on a clear day the views from here are stunning.

Another option, again with a car would be to visit Glenveagh National Park (it could also be combined with a stop at Grianan Aileach.

Final option would be to take the ferry from Magilligan to Greencastle (www.loughfoyleferry.com) and explore the Inisowen peninsula.

Hope that helps get you started! If you need any more help, just ask

Oh - and another option would be the Ulster-American Folk Park just outside Omagh. It's about a 80-90 minute drive from Coleraine.

Hi,

You are quite right...The Grange in Coleraine IS run by the former owners of Craig Park in Bushmills. We are David and Jan. We understand you chose another B&B for your trip in 2007, but we are looking forward to welcoming you here at The Grange next time you visit Northern Ireland.
