Visit to Pistoia

Hi all - anyone give me some advice about visiting Pistoia in September? My husband and I have never been here although we know Lucca, Florence and Siena. Anyone have any suggestions re hotels and if it is a worthwhile destination for 2 OAP's please?

With thanks

Can't help with hotels as only visited it from Lucca but this link has some info for there: http://www.italyheaven.co.uk/tuscany/pistoia.html

Plus Pistoia is the Italian Capital of Culture 2017: http://www.secretitaly.it/visit-pistoia-the-next-italian-capital-of-culture-in-2017/ also it has a very good twice weekly Wed/Sat morning market: http://www.comune.pistoia.it/commercio/eng/historical_markets.html

It's a lovely little city. I have only ever daytripped so I can't help you with hotels, but it is absolutely a worthwhile destination. There is quite a bit to see and it is as yet undiscovered by the masses, a real joy, even in the pouring rain, as it was during my last visit!

Morning 3Friends. We'd already made a couple of day trips to Pistoia in previous years before staying there for 2 nights in September 2015. We stayed at the Locanda San Marco, a small B+B which we enjoyed immensely, and which I have reviewed.

I visited Pistoia on a daytrip by train from Florence a few years ago, and found it very interesting. I expect to go back (again from Florence) with my wife later this year. For me, it would be worth a full day, but not spending a night. We too are getting on in years, and prefer not to carry luggage just for a night. Also, it's so easy to get there by train from Florence (or Lucca or Pisa).

Much would depend on where else you are staying on your upcoming trip, and if you'll be driving. With a car, spending a night or two could make sense if you're coming from one place, and moving on to the next place.

You'll want to make sure of which day of the week certain attractions and restaurants are closed, and their opening hours.
