Lindale Inn & Royal Oak

Hiya 6 couples staying at the Vicarage in Lindale next weekend, looking for a good local pub for the evening with good home cooked food (incl veggie), which would you suggest (if any) out of the two?

Would appreciate a swift response as this is fast approaching, many thanks :o)

Visiting again in May this year..... just wondered whether there had been any changes since our we were last in Grange? The Royal Oak, Lindale Inn and Commodore were superb on our last visit. Any others worth a visit greatly appreciated :o)

The Lindale Inn is closed at the moment (has been for a while) and the Royal Oak has undergone a make-over and is looking rather good.

Prices have remained very similar but you may have to book.

You might like the King's Head or Royal Oak in the square in Cartmel and you can walk over Hampsfell to get there.

Many thanks eller583 shame about the Lindale Inn but great news about the Royal Oak which we visited last year, we'll definitely have to book a table for 11 of us! We're staying at the Vicarage just up the road from the Oak, how far away is Hampsfell and how long will it take us to walk to Cartmel Square? ;o)

Hampsfell is the (low) fell between Lindale, Cartmel and Grange. Have a look at the OS South Lakes Tourist map, which would be a good buy if you visit the area often (maybe one at your holiday let) and you should be able to locate the footpaths going out of Lindale and down into Cartmel.

I reckon it takes about an hour to an hour and a half to walk from Lindale to Cartmel and you can always get a taxi back if the weather turns (or you are too full to walk)!

Grange Tourist Information Centre has a nice booklet of walks in the area which is worth buying too.

Hope this helps.
