I know it is covered in the IP-Art post but this is such a great day.

I have taken this text from the main IP-Art pages

This year sees the 20th anniversary of Ipswich Music Day, one of the largest free one-day music events in the UK. The event features the brightest talent across Suffolk and East Anglia, spanning almost every type of music and performing across six stages in the park throughout the day, plus classical performances in the Mansion, nearby St. Margaret's Church and Bethesda Church.

With fairground rides and children's activities, numerous stalls and a variety of food on offer, it's the perfect opportunity to meet your friends and family for a truly enjoyable day out.

This event is only possible with the support of all our partners on the day and we would like to thank Archant Suffolk, East of England Co-operative Society, ICR FM and CSV Media, Town 102, BBC Radio Suffolk, Heart FM, Attitude Inc and Grapevine magazine,

Poetry Tent open to all, this is the ultimate open mic. Just turn up on the day with your poems in your back pocket or contact John Row: info@johnrow.com

No glasses or glass bottles are permitted in the arena (except wine and champagne)

A wonderful day out in a beautiful setting. Not only is admission free, but if previous years are anything to go by they don't charge an arm and a leg for food and drink either (and you can still bring your own, of course).

Great to see that classical music is included too.

It is a shame as a whole weekend would be great - hows this one appeal on Sat 2nd of July?

Global Rhythm

date:02 July 2011

time:noon

venue:Christchurch Park

An array of live entertainment, art and food from across the world means that Global Rhythm always promises to be a colourful and exciting celebration of worldwide cultures. Showcasing music and dance from South America and the Caribbean to Africa and beyond, the festival spirit will certainly be in the summer air. Kick back, relax and enjoy all that's on offer.

line up

12.00 - 1.15

URB - (United Reggae Band), formed in 2007 for a one-off gig. The demand for the band was so encouraging that they decided put together a set which includes originals and covers from great Reggae artistes such as Bob Marley, Freddy Macgregor, Yellowman and Aswad.

1.30 - 2.45

The Klezmer Festival Band

Klezmer, until quite recently unknown in this country, was the name given to the musicians travelling with Jewish bands across Eastern Europe at the turn of the century. The Klezmer Festival Band really enjoy expressing themselves through this bewitching, danceable music which blends hints of Middle Eastern with elements from the Balkans, Hungary, Poland and Russia.

3.00 - 4.15

To'Mezclao - (Havana Cuba)

As their name - meaning "all mixed up" - suggests, To'Mezclao cast their net over a wide variety of musical styles from Cuba and elsewhere in the Latin diaspora and combine it with other influences. You'll hear everything from cumbia, meringue and salsa to hip-hop, funk and reggaeton.

4.30 - 6.00

Robert Maseko and the Congo beat

Robert Maseko is part of the new wave of Central African artists who are re-interpreting hip-swinging Congolese soukous music.

With his band the Congo Beat he has gone back to the rumba roots that so entranced Africa and added touches of reggae, flamenco, tango, meringue and zouk. Elegant vocals and sizzling guitars explore the deep roots of Afrobeat.

Pandandy, I hope it s good!

If you see a roundish, brownish person with a furry grey dog say hello!

We are thinking of wandering through the park using dog walking as an excuse and hope to catch To'Mezclao - (Havana Cuba) @ 3pm ish

Fingers crossed for sun!

We went, three generations of us (in-laws, wife and me and tiny Smartlondonlad), and all had a brilliant time. Apart from the music there was plenty of beer for me and rides for the kid. I did think they were charging a bit more than last year for hot dogs and such. Not a rip-off exactly (I have seen worse) but only just on the right side of it.
