Visit to Ipswich with kids

We (2 adults and 3 kids - 9 months, 3yrs and 12yrs) are visiting Jimmy's Farm next week, and planning to book a stay in a nearby hotel that evening. Probably a Premier Inn or similar - can anyone advise of anywhere that is particularly nice please (or any to avoid lol). Also looking for suggestions of kid-friendly places we could visit the following day before heading home later in the day please?

Thanks in advance!

You're probably as well off with one of the Premier Inns in the area. There's also a Travelodge near the town centre though that is near a busy road.

Some of the PIs are out from the town centre but easy for the A14 or A12 and for Jimmy's.

You could consider the one at Felixstowe to be near the seaside and beach, though that is about 20 mins drive from Ipswich.

See the PI website for location details, parking and places to eat nearby. They all have reviews here on TA too.

There are a few other hotels in the area such as the Belstead Brook but I suspect their rates will be considerably higher for a family room

We have some nice parks in Ipswich, one being Christchurch Park which you and the kids might like to visit.

There's also the leisure park at Bourne Hill which includes dry slope skiing

There and a few other ideas are covered in the link below

Covid-19 social distancing has of course had an impact on some of the activities

Should you stay North of the Town (say the PI there) there's Suffolk Water Park and Bramford Golf - for fishing and golf including kids.

Needham lake is nice for a walk/picnic

Baylham House Farm too - but may be a bit too much like Jimmy's Farm.

Might depend on where you live/are heading off to?

If your twelve-year-old (or indeed you) is interested in History you may like to stay in Ipswich.

The fairly large children's play area in Christchurch Park, closed until about week ago, now seems to have reopened.

The nearest Premier Inn to Jimmy's Farm is the one at the Oyster Reach ("Ipswich South" on the PI web site) - a five minute drive if that, and no town traffic to get stuck in.

Ipswich South would be a good choice and has a Beefeater pub restaurant next door.

The Bourne Hill leisure complex I mentioned is just up the hill.

The Suffolk food hall might be worth a quick visit too

What about the Mid Suffolk light railway or the East anglian transport museum.

The East Anglia Transport Museum is in Carlton Colville near Lowestoft, which I expect is too far for the OP to go...

The Ipswich Transport Museum is nearby but the website still shows it’s closed due to Covid - if interested give them a ring to check
