If I cannot get to Tromso then it may have to be Trondheim. My question is what is snowfall like inbetween Christmas & New year generally? And are there any excursions for Northern Lights trips, dog sledging or fjord trips if staying in Trondheim please? Thank you for any help.

47 helpful votes Trondheim is not a Northern Lights destination, you need to go north to Tromsø for all the activities you mention. Check out tourist office websites
Coastal climates so quite likely poor snow conditions around Christmas.
Northern lights is not so frequent in Trondheim, so an excursion would be to Tromsø!
Snowfall is likely in higher areas in the hinterland.
Trondheim has its own fjord, big one, you can go to Munkholmen small island.

For the "classical" western fjords you have to travel at least to Sunndalsøra (or Åndalsnes)

50 helpful votes Too far south and too much city lights. We regularly see NL out at the Fosen peninsula, but as stated no one in the area sell NL trips.
For sledge tours, go to Røros instead, a true winter destination.
