Wien-Meidling Station is the place where many trains end, Vienna's new main station is not fully operational yet, so still irrelevant for long-distance travel.
If you're staying in Vienna it makes no difference - good connections from Meidling to the centre. As a matter of interest in European cities major rail stations are seldom in the centre of town. And are seldom the best area to stay in.
thanks Norman and Mikey.
we are trying to book an apartment or hotel near the Stephansplatz - so what is the best way to get there from the Wien Meidling station? We are 3 adults.
Also, we have 2 days - 1 for the Schonbrunn Palace and 1 day for roaming around the city. essentially. is there any all inclusive tram/bus day pass we should consider that can be used for station to hotel and also the palace visit?
Thx in advance for your advice.
Night train EN 60477 actually terminates at West Station, Wien-Meidling Station is prior to West Station. From West Station (Westbahnhof) it would be easier to go on to Stephansplatz by subway line U3.

Ok thanks - but had to change some plans - posting fresh requests in another thread.
