Christmas Markets Plan

Counting the days until our arrival on the 20th!!!!

What is the best plan for the Christmas markets--meaning should we go during the day and "check" everything out, then return at night for all fun and ambiance????

We'll visit the Schonbrunn on a seperate day/evening!

Will also be visiting other sites/museums/treasury--what we missed during our visit in Feb--during that "lovely" artic winter blast.!!

You'll have a great time. We did this last year. Make sure you get Punsch at each location and keep the mugs as souvenirs. Rathaus is the most crowded. The one over by Karlskirche is really good. Make sure to stop over at the Cafe Einstein when you visit the Markt by the Rathaus. Pretty good food, fun staff, great beer. Couldn't go to Schoenbrunn as we had our Jack Russell with us...they don't allow the little stalwarts there. Have a great time!!!!

They collect a deposit for the mug.... so if you 'keep' the mug, you have really already paid for it. I loved the market at the Belvedere and at Rathaus. Have a great trip!

Thanks--- everytime I get on this site my xcitement grooooows!

We plan on visiting most markets around the ring (we'll be staying at the Marriott on the ring), I guess my question is, are we missing anything by going during the day vs pm??

I vote for the pm for all the lights/excitement!!!

Staying close to the markets we can sample ALL the punch/ collect mugs and not have to worry about lugging around too much stuff!!

Did I mention I was major excited about our trip ?????

Be excited, take a daypack for your mugs and other things you purchase. We liked the evening and night, but visiting during the day was okay too...many more tourist buses it seemed during the day. Watch out for that Turbo Punsch. Wander the side streets around the old city and enjoy Fiaker Kaffee as well. Mayhap my friend Vertical will post with the best Punsch locales. Frohe Weinachten!!!

Remember that shops, markets etc, close early Christmas Eve and for a day or more after (I love that!!! People really have time for their family time, no rampant commercialism). There is a small market open over at Schottentor U-bahn station (or at least last year). You will have a fantastic time!!

Thank you Thank you Thank you

We'll do our other "touristy"stuff during day then hit the markets in the evening!!!!

Good point about taking a bag for all the goodies!!

Realizing the shops and most restaurants close early Christmas eve, what dining spots are recommended for the Eve???

Try Der Kuckkuck and see if they have anything open. You really need to reserve right away wherever you go on Christmas Eve. I am sure one of the experts have a link as to what places are open.
