itinerary ideas Munich to Salzburg in 3 days by car

My wife, teenage daughter and I will be traveling by car throughout Bavaria in May. We plan to spend 2 days in Munich and 2 full days in Salzburg before departing to Paris on an overnight train.

We have set aside 2 full days on our travel leg between Munich and Salzburg. What would be the most scenic route to take by car and where would you recommend we stay the nights?

When traveling from Munich to Salzburg you'll widely be on German/Bavarian territory why I would ask this in the Bavaria forum.

You could visit Herrenchiemsee on Lake Chiemsee at Prien am Chiemsee

then simply go to Berchtesgaden to overnight before Salzburg

I agree with giftzwerg re Herrenchiemsee and his recommendations of things to do in Berchtesgaden.

One suggestion: Upon leaving Prien (after visiting Herrenchiemsee) return to the Autobahn A-8 the one you came on from Munich, and from which you exited at the Bernau exit to get to Prien. Pass unxderneath the Autobahn and drive into the village of Bernau, and from there on the B- 305 to Grassau, Marquartstein, Reit im Winkel (this a particularly scenic village). From there, the B-305 becomes part of theDeutsche Akpenstrasse (German Alpine Highway) to Berchtesgaden. Very scenic. Just a couple of places to watch your direcgtions: After Fritz am Sand, the Alpentsrasse turns right (you DON'T want to go to Ruhpolding. ), and again, later, the B-305 and the B-306 coming from Inzell merge. Again, you make a right turn at that intersection.

It is a good road and clearly marked, just want to make sure that with all the ooooh's and ahhhhs you don't miss your turn.
