Fall color and Northern light-is Sept a best bet?

We are keen in photography and would like to capture fall color and a chance of Northern light during our visit in September 2018. I know mother nature is unpredictable but to choose between Mid and last week of Sept, what your suggestion? There are 3-4 of us and will rent a car, stay for 5-6 nights.

Thank in advance for your reply!

Sorry, I meant either Sept 9-15 or Sept 23 - Sept 30?

The latter is better for fall colors.

Keep in mind that if a storm comes in, it takes only a few hours for the wind to strip off the autumn leaves of the trees here. 😁

Thank you all for your prompt replies!

Iceland doesn’t have a lot of trees, so if we can experience it while in Reykjavik will be a plus. If we can see the color change shows up in the mosses, grass and low shrubbery, near waterfalls or while we are on the road, that would be perfect. That being said, I will mark my calendar for the last week of Sept and start the planning process. More likely our international flight will from/to Boston, so we can spare two days after the inbound flight to visit Vermont if mother nature is nice to us.
