Cash or Card? 'cash free' Restaurants

Me and my husband are visiting over the new year period and ive noticed on a few restaurant websites it states 'we are a cash free restaurant', is this the case for the majority of bars and restaurants in Gothenburg? Just trying to plan how much money I should change?

I prefer paying in cash where possible to avoid hefty debit card charges!

Thanks

Katie

So you prefer to pay hefty exchange fees instead? With the inconvenience of exchanging currency, estimating how much you need and pay even more fees to get rid of what is left?

There are cash free restaurants, but in my experience most will accept cash payments.

Thank you, I think we will just bring a little cash with us and pay on card :)

They are not only cash-free in restaurants, the place is going that way in general, public bathrooms included.

Having a little cash is a good idea, with several cards, in case one of them won't function for some reason. Never happened to me so far, though.

How popular is Apple Pay or Pay wave there?

I use my credit card that has no transaction fees. I use my ATM card if I want cash and have no transaction fees.

The dominant payment app is Swish, a cooperation between the Swedish banks.

Sweden is late with contactless. Apple pay has been available since October but only one major bank is connected. My guess is that maybe one fourth or one third of the places where you pay small amounts have contactless terminals for Apple pay or paywave. Less common in places with larger purchases.
