First time to Gothenburg

Hi ,

I’m traveling to Gothenburg for the first time with my 1.5 year old daughter & we r from India & not used to lower temperature.

Please advice on clothing & accessories to beat the cold.

Any other advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Navin

As for clothes, see above and again remember mittens, woolen cap and for your 1,5 year-old thermo-clothing like the winter overalls Swedish children wear this time of year or at least leggings+thick trousers+raintrousers on top of that for outdoor play, but you still need a thick blanket in the pram if she is to sit still during longer walks.

For real snow you would have to go up north, at least to Karlstad, Falun or something at that level. We had some the other week, but it rained away. There will be a light snowfall on Monday though, so with luck you will see some here in Gothenburg. Or you can go to Christmas at Liseberg - a wintery decorated amusement park highly recommended for children.

Hi again,

as for seeing snow: congratulations - you managed to come here at the same time as the snow. Our town is now all white and if not so much in the city centre, you can easily take bus No 17 to Spåntorget, which is higher up so the snow stays longer, and then walk down to the lake Härlanda tjärn and the forest and really see our fine nature. Before taking the bus downtown again, you could go to the nearby Trätorget for a Swedish fika at the café. And for rainy days I recommend Universeum at Korsvägen with aquarium, rain forest and a Swedish flora/fauna room, like a real hillside from cold to warm.

Hope you're having a nice stay in Gothenburg.

Hi Navin P,

If you travel in spring, summer or autumn it is very important your daughter to wear a propriate hap, gloves and a scarf. Also warm socks are mandotary. Hope you enjoy your travel.

Natasha, you don't need warm clothes in the summer and who has heard of gloves for a child? Warm clothes are needed in the winter. If you refer to the risk for strong sunlight I think these travellers are used to that from their home country.

From airport to city, airport coaches/bus are preferable. Once you are in city, you can take other forms of transport - ferry, tram or taxi. This will be convenient and cost effective.
